Spiced Smokey Snack Mix
One thing I can’t imagine growing up without is my grandma’s classic, smokey snack mix! It is something our family would devour in the first day or two of stopping by for the holidays. Each handful of this revamped version is packed with fiber, so it will last and keep you full for longer! It is easily thrown together in about half of an hour and perfect for dipping or a quick, grab-and-go snack.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup hot sauce of choice
2 tbsp coconut aminos
1 tbsp freshly-squeezed lemon juice (I used 1/2 a medium lemon!)
1 tsp fresh pepper
1 tsp finely minced garlic
3 cups pretzels (I recommend these!)
3 cups pretzel sticks (also these!)
1.5 cups walnuts, chopped
1 cup pecans, chopped
1/2 cup shelled pistachios
2 tbsp (ground) flax seeds
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, then line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, mix the hot sauce, coconut aminos, lemon juice, pepper, and garlic well.
Gradually stir in the pretzels, nuts, and seeds, until everything is well-coated.
Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan, spread it out as much as possible, and evenly pour any leftover liquids on top.
Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until it starts to turn darker and is dry or very close to it.
Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes.
Enjoy right away!
Store leftovers, if any, in an airtight container on the counter.
Notes:
Like many of my recipes, this is quite customizable!
You may substitute any nuts or seeds you would like (example: hemp instead of flax seeds)!
Adding in plantain chips would be absolutely delicious, along with some pink salt.
I recommend you not store this in the fridge or freezer, otherwise it will all become soggy, or at least less crunchy. It all depends on how long it is left in the fridge or freezer.
