Matcha Hot Chocolate
This dairy-free drink came to be something added to my list of cravings after having consecutive rainy days in July. The caffeine from the cacao and l-theanine from the matcha add the extra benefit of enhancing mental clarity and sustaining energy levels for the rest of the day, minus the crash most people get when they consume coffee. About 99% of the time, I reach for iced, specialty drinks. If you’re like me, scroll down to the notes section to see how to simply make this an iced beverage! The combination of ingredients whisks together an added-sugar-free concoction that still tastes rich, smooth, and indulgent. In summer or winter, and anywhere else in between, you can cozy up with this!
Ingredients:
1.5 cups unsweetened (dairy-free) milk
1 tbsp cacao powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1-2 scoop(s) collagen peptides (optional)
1/2 tsp organic, ceremonial-grade matcha powder
1/4 cup hot water
marshmallows, for topping (if desired)
Directions:
Add the milk to a small saucepan over medium heat, and bring it to a boil.
Whisk in the cacao powder, vanilla, cinnamon, and collagen (if using). Once everything is mixed, reduce the heat to low for 1-2 minutes more, stirring occasionally.
Meanwhile, whisk the matcha and hot water together in a small bowl until no clumps remain.
Pour the hot chocolate into your favorite mug, followed by the prepped matcha. Enjoy!
Notes:
If you want to make this iced, once everything is poured into your favorite glass or mug, place it in the fridge for at least 10 minutes to chill, then add 1/2 cup of ice. If you add the ice while it’s hot, it will melt quickly and water down the drink.
