Deep Dark Chocolate Smoothie

This smoothie is not only delicious, but has a rich, dark chocolate flavor. It gives an extra reason to enjoy chocolate desserts for breakfast, but in a way that energizes and fuels us for the day ahead! With each sip comes a smooth, creamy mix of nutrient-dense foods, such as tasteless avocado, camu camu powder (high in vitamin c), and bittersweet cacao nibs + crunchy granola on top, if desired. Even the kids will love it, if you’re willing to share — grab a straw and enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup organic + unsweetened almond/coconut milk

  • 1 scoop (vegan) chocolate protein of choice (I used this!)

  • 1 scoop collagen (totally optional)

  • 1 small avocado

  • 1-2 tbsp almond butter

  • 1-2 tbsp flax seeds

  • 1-1.5 tsp manuka honey (see notes)

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp camu camu powder

  • 1 cup ice (crushed is best)

  • Optional Toppings:

  • cacao nibs

  • paleo granola

Directions:

  1. In a blender, toss in the milk, protein, collagen (if using), and avocado. Blend this lightly.

  2. Add in the almond butter, flax seeds, cinnamon, and camu camu powder, then blend everything again.

  3. Add in the ice, then pulse the smoothie until everything is well-incorporated and thick. Incrementally pulse in more ice, if you would like an even thicker consistency.

  4. Pour into your favorite glass, top with crunchy goods, and enjoy!

Notes:

  • Manuka honey has tons of beneficial properties, such as giving a delicious immune boost and helping with muscle recovery! Feel free to use my discount code, KATESCLEANEATS, to save money on purchasing some of your own here!

  • I recommend storing your glass in the freezer while you make the smoothie. When you pour the smoothie inside of the glass, your smoothie will stay cool and thick for much longer than normal!
