Simple Tomato Sauce
Sadly, many store-bought sauces are loaded with unnecessary added sugars and vegetable oils. For a fun twist, and to save a little extra cash, take a chance on making your own! This juicy tomato sauce can be spread upon pizza or engulf a bowl of pasta. All you need is a blender, tomatoes, some fresh seasonings, and your house will smell like an Italian restaurant in minutes!
Ingredients:
28oz canned, diced tomatoes/3.5 cups fresh tomatoes, diced
1/2 tbsp black pepper, freshly ground
1/2 tbsp cilantro or oregano
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
2 tbsp hot sauce (optional)
1/2 tbsp cayenne pepper (optional)
Directions:
There are two ways to make this: If you do have an immersion blender, start by placing a large saucepan over low-medium heat, and dumping all the tomatoes in (then go to step 2). If not, simply scroll down to the notes for an easy alternative!
Occasionally stir the tomatoes for 3-5 minutes, or until they starts bubbling.
Stir all the spices in well.
Using an immersion blender, blend the tomato chunks, until a desired consistency is reached.
Let cool for 2-3 minutes, then enjoy on pizza, pasta, or even use as a taco night topping!
Store leftovers, if any, in an airtight container in the fridge. Bonus for a cute jar!
Notes:
If you don’t have an immersion blender, follow these steps: Blend everything together until your desired consistency is reached. I recommend pulsing the ingredients together if you prefer a chunkier sauce. Once everything is well-incorporated and blended to how you chose, transfer the sauce to a saucepan over low-medium heat. Follow steps 2, then 5, and finish with step 6. I hope you love it as much as I do!
